Thank You for the 1st of August. Today is the Birthday of ingenious fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.

In the early 1950s, a young Yves Saint Laurent arrived in Paris, armed with an array of fashion sketches. Within a year, the 18-year-old student of haute couture was snapped up by Christian Dior and hired as his studio assistant.

When in 1957, Christian Dior passed away unexpectedly, Saint Laurent became Dior’s head designer. His first independent collection, the «Trapèze» collection, presented in January 1958, was an immense success. The shy young man in glasses and a clean-cut looking suit was only 22.

After Yves Saint Laurent’s “Trapese” collection was shown the press declared that “Saint Laurent has saved French fashion” and “the great Dior tradition will continue.”

It included one of Saint Laurent’s first and most famous innovations – the trapeze dress.

Saint Laurent’s “Trapeze” was permeated by a mischievous spirit of youth. His dresses were known for their sharp lines and unusual proportions and length.

“Will this young man be able to uphold Dior’s traditions of high couture?” the press wondered before the showing.

But all doubts vanished. Dior child with his own long and beautiful way was born under the bright Star!

Raspberry Tale

Hello God!

Thank You for raspberries we enjoy in July. Raspberries remind me a wonderful and sweet taste from my childhood. I remember a big bushes of raspberry I was playing with my little sister in. I was a bear and she was a hare. Our story was about a lost little hare and a bear who was asked by mother of a little hare to find her daughter. When a bear had found a bushes of raspberries bear forgot about asking to find a little hare. So bear, me, ate a raspberries when little hare, my sister, sat in the bushes. My mother was waiting for us with a little cup of raspberries her children had gathered…

A magic smell and taste of raspberries and homemade waffles keep my happy memory about childhood.

Every family had an electrical waffle maker you see below. I am lucky because my mother-in-law has the waffle maker which is rare vintage thing from USSR now.

The first picture is actual photo of my mother-in-law’s equipment. The waffle maker is baking very well.

The recipe of waffles is simple:

200 gr. butter or margarine
1 cup of sugar
5 eggs
1.5 cup of flour

Hand made cottage cheese is delicious. I add a half cup of sugar and steer it to cream mass.

Rasberries are just from the garden. What’s a beautiful and delicious union!

I’m totally amazed!

Oh raspberry you’re beautiful

Red nectar of the season

Happy Simplicity

Hello God!

Thank You for Your patient waiting for me. Last week I spent in the peaceful place where I invite you for a walking. The place is magic and enigmatic. It is hard to find the place even on the maps and I almost sure you have not any chance to see it anywhere else. So take this unique possibility!

“The miracle of life is concluded in patience and simplicity” I thought when I was walking on this street in the small belorussian town where my mother-in-law lives.

Life is simple here. The houses are wood and small. Usually two rooms and a kitchen with a big wood-burning stove are in a typical village’s house.

There are no rooms for depressions here. The inhabitants even have never heard about psychiatrist and psychoanalysis. Scientists have confirmed rural life is better for happy life. Researchers have shown that the parts of the brain dealing with stress and emotion are affected by living in the big city.

Watching the spectacular sunset and feeling the warm air flowing in hairs are the best cure for our urban brain.

“Simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures. Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world”. Lao Tzu’s words is the fundamental truth we often forget. I will remember.

Simplicity implies beauty, purity and clarity here. A vigorous rooster’s cry is a natural alarm clock, the first golden rays of the sun on a pillow are tickling my eyes saying “Good Morning” and a tantalizing scent of a homemade pie languishing in the oven promises a really good day.

And in the evening when the sky is flourished with star myriads gentle wind tells his delightful breezy story about true happiness …

Happiness is simple. Sometimes everything we do to find it is complicated.

I am grateful for your smile now and these flowers I have gathered are for you. Thank you for your happiness now.

Perfect Dress

Thank You for my daughter’s passion about princesses. Every her doll is a princess. As you know a princess dreams to become the Queen one day. The heart of coronation in her dream day is Perfect Dress, of course!

Since the age of just 26, Elizabeth II has been the Queen. Her coronation on June 2, 1953 was an unprecedented spectacle of pomp and pageantry and the Coronation Dress is the most important and perfect dress for 20th century.

The Coronation Gown was created by the British couturier Norman Hartnell. I think the gown is the most exquisite couture work ever to be done. I am dazzled by the light and genius of this Masterpiece.

On her way to Westminster Abbey, the Queen wore these fantastic pieces of jewellery, made in diamonds and pearls, the Diamond Diadem made for George IV, Queen Victoria’s collet diamond necklace and diamond drop earrings.

The jewels speak for themselves.

Norman Hartnell had previously made Her Majesty’s wedding dress for her marriage to Prince Philip. By the way he became the first couturier to be knighted.

The gown had a sweetheart neckline and full skirt and was embroidered with some 10,000 seed-pearls and many thousands of beads. It was trailed by a 15 foot star-patterned train.

Made of English silk, the dress was so heavy that three layers of horsehair were used, so as to lighten it enough that the Queen could move freely through the complicated manoeuvres in Westminster Abbey.

Eight months in the making, the Queen is reported to have declared it “glorious” the first time she saw it and wore it six more times after coronation day, including at the opening of parliaments in New Zealand and Australia in 1954 and Canada in 1957.

The decoration on the robe comprises a border of wheat ears and olive branches, symbolizing peace and plenty.

Intricate embroidery featured floral details to represent each country ruled by Elizabeth II: the English Tudor rose, the Welsh Leek, the Scots thistle, the Australian wattle, the New Zealand fern, protea for South Africa, two lotus flowers for India and Ceylon, wheat, cotton and jute for Pakistan.

The motifs on the dress were embroidered in pastel-coloured silks, pearls, diamonds, pale amethysts, golden crystals, gold and silver bullion and sequins to create a shimmering effect. There was one emblem not included in the embroidery sample that was included in the dress: ‘unknown to the Royal wearer there was one extra little four-leaved shamrock for luck.’ Hartnell secretly later added an embroidered extra four-leaved Shamrock on the left side of her dress as an omen for good fortune.

It was embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework, who worked for a total of 3,500 hours between March and May 1953. Every detail was done by hand.

Two Ladies

Hello God!

Thank You for my happy Destiny. My way is beautiful. I was born in USSR but educated in Western tradition. This rich composition allows me analyzing two different world, I suppose.

On the photo below we see two women which are on the one stage together. The stage is the formal dinner in Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna, where Khrushchev and Kennedy appeared together for the only time and in the company of their wives Nina Khrushchev and Jackie Kennedy.

For Kennedy, who had become President in the same 1961 year, it was his first meeting with his great opposite number one from the Soviet Union.

“I never met a man like this,” Kennedy told Hugh Sidey, Time magazine’s White House correspondent. “[I] talked about how a nuclear exchange would kill 70 million people in 10 minutes, and he just looked at me as if to say, ‘So what?’”

At their final meeting, Kennedy sought to improve the chilled atmosphere over Berlin. “It is up to the U.S. to decide whether there will be war or peace,” Khrushchev said. “Then, Mr. Chairman,” Kennedy responded, “there will be war. It will be a cold winter.”

At the first glimpse we see the clear contrast between the looks of the First Ladies. Jackie is fashionable and sophisticated and Nina is provincial and shapeless. But mindful view understands that the visible differences in appearance of two ladies are just the tip of the iceberg.

Jackie is 32 y.o and Nina is 61 y.o. here. Jackie’s father, John, was a wealthy stockbroker on Wall Street whose family had come from France. Nina’s father was a poor peasant from the village in Ukraine. At the age of 22 y.o. Jackie enjoyed her youth in the George Washington University. Nina in her 22 y.o. was suffering by typhoid fever and lived in the village house even without floor just ground.

Jackie and Nina were a very strong women. They both were bitterly crying when their children were lost. Jackie’s third child Patrick died after two days from the birth. Nina had buried her daughter Elena.

They both loved their husbands and they both became a widows. Kennedy was killed and Jackie became a widow at age 34. Khrushchev died of a heart attack in a hospital near his home in Moscow on 1971. Nina was a little lucky because she was 71 y.o.

Jackie died of a form of cancer of the lymphatic system. She was 64 years old. Nina died at 84 y.o.

What the complicated Destinies we have just touched!

At the first glimpse we all are different. But see attentively: for every mother her child is value, every girls dream about Prince’s love, every boys dream to become an astronaut. Our tears are the same about loss and pain. Our joys are the same about happiness in our families and peace in our countries.

Summer, Beach and Bikini!

Thank You for Inspiration to invent bikini. It is hard to imagine our life without it. “Summer, Beach and Bikini!” is a new hendiatris that endorses hedonistic lifestyles or behaviors in hot weather.

On July 5th, 1946, the modern bikini was unveiled in public for the first time. French fashion designer Louis Réard hired Micheline Bernardini, an exotic dancer at the Casino de Paris to sport his two-piece creation after the runway models he approached refused to wear it.

This ‘revolutionary’ and iconic piece of beachwear was named after the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. Reard dubbed “bikini,” inspired by a news-making U.S. atomic test that took place off the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean.

Réard described his ‘invention’ as “smaller than the smallest swimsuit.” He also said, “A bikini is not a bikini unless it can be pulled through a wedding ring.”

“A girl in a bikini is like having a loaded gun on your coffee table – There’s nothing wrong with them, but it’s hard to stop thinking about,” said Garrison Keillor. Oh he is right, so right. Even I can not stop to see and admire my favorite model from Victoria Secret Candice Swanepoel.

“Oh, how I regret not having worn a bikini for the entire year I was twenty-six. If anyone young is reading this, go, right this minute, put on a bikini, and don’t take it off until you’re thirty-four,” Nora Ephron writes in ” I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman”. Her advice is wise. But why until thirty-four, I suggest at least until seventy-four! We, women, are created beautiful and our task to manifest our Beauty every moment of our life. It is the key of happiness of our world.

Dior Me

Hello God!

Thank You for Dior again. Dior was the iconic name almost for every Soviet woman. Happy circumstances had brought Dior to USSR in 1959. 14 years ago the War II was finished and the winner-USSR was in the process of restoring and, what is important, curing post traumatic pain. It was the time to remember about life, peaceful life.

The Khrushchev’s Thaw had changed many aspects of the Soviet life, and fashion was one of them. A “classic” cut of Dior suit was considered “ideologically neutral” by the Soviets, as well as stable and practical.

The colors of war were mixed up with dirty gray and bloody red. Dior was happily mixed up with the motley and lithe palette of the French fashion.

“Oh, I see the aliens!” We can smile now, but these faces still remember horrors of the war.

My grandmother was young and beautiful. She could be on this picture with my little mother on her hands.

My grandmother and mother usually copied a dresses from a rare magazines about fashion and they sew on the sewing machines at home. My promo dress was sew by them a la Dior!!!

I am happy because love to Dior was genetically grafted to my personality by two generations of beautiful and strong women. As for me to see the last Couture collection fall-winter’13/14 is sad.

Le Chapeau

Thank You for today’s Inspiration You generously had showered on. I spent my today with a great impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. We were walking in Paris and admiring a parisian women. Renoir adores beautiful women. He said humorously that it is better to paint women than love them. Almost all his woman’s paintings are devoted to la femme a le chapeau. Woman in a hat is a symbol of feminity and charm.

“A hat is a flag, a shield, a bit of armor, and the badge of femininity. A hat is the difference between wearing clothes and wearing a costume; it’s the difference between being dressed and being dressed up; it’s the difference between looking adequate and looking your best. A hat is to be stylish in, to glow under, to flirt beneath, to make all others seem jealous over, and to make all men feel masculine about. A piece of magic is a hat,” Martha Sliter said.

“Fashion is a kind of communication. It’s a language without words. A great hat speaks for itself.” I love that.

“Whenever you wear your hat, your day will be special.” Louise Green is laughing: “Wearing a hat is like having a baby or a puppy; everyone stops to coo and talk about it.”

“Wearing a hat versus not wearing a hat is the difference between looking adequate and looking your best.” Martha Sliter inspires to buy a hat.

“You cannot hide in a hat; you will be noticed, especially by men. To men, you become a lady when you don a hat–one who they rush to open doors for. To women, you become an inspiration, reminding them that they have a closet full of hats they have not had the courage to wear.” The advice is good, I will follow.

A woman in a hat is always the ultimate sign of class, poise, and the fervor of a forgotten generation of ever-confident females. When you see a woman in a beautiful hat, you know she’s not afraid to be seen.

What If

Hello God!

Thank You for the questions we are not able to find an answer at this very moment of our personal development. My question is “What If something had never happened?” Today I am thinking about “What If the World War II had never happened?”

I am from Belarus. My country was suffered by World War II badly. It is hard to imagine but “in total, Belarus lost a quarter of its population in World War II including practically all its intellectual elite. About 9 200 villages and 1.2 million houses were destroyed”. Every Belorussian family has a member – participant of this war.

The portrait of Hitler in my educational background was definite and unequivocal as monster tyrant and embodiment of all possible evil. I am stumbled and dumbfounded by Hitler’s paintings I did not know about.

Before he waged war on the world, Adolf Hitler was an upcoming and unsuccessful artist. He was rejected twice by the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (1907-1908), because of his “unfitness for painting”.

After the rejections from the Academy of Fine Arts, he was recommended to study architecture. Following this recommendation, he intended to pursue architectural studies, yet he lacked the academic credentials required for architecture school.

Hitler wrote in his diary: “In a few days I myself knew that I should some day become an architect. To be sure, it was an incredibly hard road; for the studies I had neglected out of spite at the Realschule were sorely needed. One could not attend the Academy’s architectural school without having attended the building school at the Technic, and the latter required a high-school degree. I had none of all this. The fulfillment of my artistic dream seemed physically impossible.”

Hitler’s personality is complicated. Everybody knows that he was a military tyrant and a murderer, not that he actually had great potential.

Hitler did not create all horror of the war by his own. Unfathomable myriad of factors, like the circumstances of the time, people thoughts, fears and hopes created the reality where Hitler was possible.

We are creating the reality where we are possible as individuals realizing unique potential to knit our every next moment. We have to be responsible for every thoughts and decision and always remember about Butterfly effect.

Could the professor of the Academy of Fine Art imagine the consequences of his decision to reject Hitler on the exam?

It seems I have found the answer on my question I was thinking about today. What If the World War II had never happened? If Adolf Hitler had been attended to the Academy, if the World War II had never happened, my life was not possible, I had never had a chance to write this words and meet you.

Not Brook but Ocean

Hello God!

Thank You for creating music we are able to listen. I love music by Johann Sebastian Bach. “Bach” is the German word for “brook”.

“Not Brook but Ocean should be his name” said Ludvig Van Beethoven.

I am lucky because I have had a possibility to be in Leipzig and walking to St. Thomas Church where Bach worked as a cantor from 1723 until his death in 1750.

I play the piano and the first piece I begin with my morning lesson is something from “Well Tempered Clavier”. Bach gave the title to a book of preludes and fugues in all 24 major and minor keys, dated 1722, composed “for the profit and use of musical youth desirous of learning, and especially for the pastime of those already skilled in this study.”

Bach makes my mornings. Every preludes and fugues are challenge for my fingers and enigma for brain and soul. I love to think that I am playing and listening the harmony of the universe.

“First, he was an intensely spiritual man. Second, he devoted his massive talent to the God he believed graced him with it,” Rick Marschall wrote in “Johann Sebastian Bach”.

“You want to discern a personality in my music?” we can perhaps hear him asking. “Listen closer and you will find one – the Lord Jesus Christ,” Rick said.

Below Johann Sebastian Bach’s 1722 seal, used throughout his Leipzig years. It contains the letters ‘J S B’ superimposed over their mirror image.

“In 1723, Bach was appointed Cantor of the Thomasschule at Thomaskirche in Leipzig, and Director of Music in the principal churches in the town, namely the Nikolaikirche and the Paulinerkirche, the church of the University of Leipzig. This was a prestigious post in the mercantile city in the Electorate of Saxony, which he held for 27 years until his death.”

His remains are buried under a bronze epitaph near the altar.

Another notable feature of the Thomaskirche is that it contains two organs. The older one is a Romantic organ by Wilhelm Sauer, built from 1885–89. Since this organ is considered “unsuitable” for Bach’s music, a second organ was built by Gerald Woehl’s organ building company from 1999–2000. This “Bach organ” was designed to look similar to the old organ on which Bach had played in the Paulinerkirche.

A statue of Johann Sebastian Bach by the Leipzig sculptor Carl Seffner that stands next to the church was dedicated in 1908.

I am reading in “Glory and Honor” by Gregory Wilbur: “Ultimately, Bach opens a vista to the universe. After experiencing him, people feel there is meaning to life after all”, said German organist Helmunt Walcha.”
