Hello God!
Thank You for the 31st of December. This day is the most astonishing day in my country and in my family. As you know I live in the one of the post Soviet republic and New Year Holiday here is celebrating almost 10 days and in Russian Tsar Peter the Great style – mayonnaise salads, a lot of black caviar with vodka.
As you know before the 16th century in ancient Russia March was considered as the first month of the year. But Peter the Great issued a decree according to which January 1 was the first day of 1700 by Julian calendar. We celebrate two Christmas – Catholic and Orthodox, meet two New Year – New and Old!
Personally I prefer vine. You can imagine my holiday workout for nearest 10 days.
No New Year without Monsieur Olivier!
Olivier salad is usually made with diced boiled potatoes, carrots, brined dill pickles, green peas, eggs, celeriac, onions, diced boiled chicken or sometimes ham or bologna sausage, tart apples, with salt, pepper, and mustard added to enhance flavor, dressed with mayonnaise.
New Year refuses to come in without Shuba!
Shuba means “fur coat”. A fish wears shuba in our plates.
Dressed herring, a herring under a fur coat is a layered salad composed of diced salted herring covered with layers of grated boiled vegetables – potatoes, carrots, beet roots, chopped onions, and mayonnaise.
Black caviar, thank you, Petr the Great, we eat by spoons, you know.
One of the most significant and breath-taking elements of the New Year’s Night is making wishes. I believe that my utmost wish made on the New Year’s Night will surely fulfill in the New 2016.
I tell you a secret – I know a unique method of making wishes that gives almost a hundred percent fulfillment guarantee: while the chimes are striking twelve, you see its in video, you should write the wish on a sheet of paper, burn it on a candle, mix the ashes in your glass of Champaign and drink it before the chimes cease striking.
Happy New 2016!!!
Mes meilleurs vœux pour l’année qui vient, et les suivantes 🙂
